Make it an astronaut party! It doesn’t require a whole lot of planning or money to make your theme out of this world. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Decorations: Cover the walls, floors, and furniture in black or blue gauzy fabric. Then hang glow-in-the-dark stars and moons from the ceiling. String up some sparkly lights and use Styrofoam balls to make planets, or hang some CDs from the ceiling for a fun effect.

Party Favors: Pop-Rocks candy, Milky Way bars, Mars bars, plastic spaceships, and glow-in-the-dark bouncy balls are all good bets.

Games: A game of Saturn’s Ring Toss requires little more than a hula hoop and bean bags. Mark an “X” with tape on the ground or floor. Two helpers hold the hula hoop a short distance from the X while players take turns trying to toss the bean bag planets through the hoop. For a fun variation on this, try tossing “flying comets” instead of bean bags. To make them just cover tennis balls in colorful tights or leggings and secure the balls with a rubber band.
