As you may have heard, the American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays, joined forces with the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) to reinvent the birthday cake and Chef Duff Goldman from Food Network’s hit show “Ace of Cakes,” helped us choose our winner. You can download the winning red velvet recipe here.
We’re happy to announce that our cake contest will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Ace of Cakes,” scheduled to air on October 8 at 10 p.m. EDT (check your local listings to confirm the time in your area). We’re hosting a special viewing party on Facebook for you and anyone else interested to chat during the show, so be sure to RSVP.

I love Chef Duff and am glad he came together with this cause! My niece was 2 years old when diagnosed with ALL leukemia. At that time she was projected to only have 6 months to live. Today she is a beautiful 16 year old and even won Miss Arkansas Natural Beauty Pageant! I’m in favor of everything American Cancer Society does and support them in every way that I can for all the wonderful things they have done for my family! THANKS ACS!
Ace of Cakes is my favorite show and now that they teamed up with my favorite cause it makes it even more worth the watch! I lost my cousin to Cervical Cancer over 6years ago and then earlier this year we found out that my mother in law is battling colon-rectum cancer. The ACS has been apart of my life for years and will continue to be apart of our lives! so Thanks ACS for all the support and all the help you have giving us because Hope is what we have left to live on!
I would like to thank the ACS for all there support during these challenging months…. I am one of the cancer patients that LOST their insurance coverage….by them saying what i has was pre-existing… I CAN NOT get over that !!! I did get most of my cancer(s)treatments, but I have not completed the one for my thyroid cancer…I am with out Insurance, I can not work and I need more medical care, I am having major pains ( all the time), but I can not afford to go see a doctor…
My gynecologist/oncologist has been amazing !
But i do need to see others…

Love Ace of Cakes! I watch it every week. My cat and I love the whole gang. Really, she likes Duff. Everytime he is on she looks right at the tv. Would love to have a cake from Ace of Cakes but I live in Indiana. This is such a good cause and of course the cake has to be delicious.
I will definitely be watching this episode of “Ace of Cakes” for American Cancer Society. I love the things you do to help people and donate to ACS annually. Here is to more birthdays to come for everyone!

I love this show! I am really excited about this episode, I am recording it to make sure I get to see it. I am a sculpture student and am thinking of going into culinary design, so this is a wonderful combination of skills. My mother is a breast cancer survivor, so I too am affected by this terrible disease. The fact that this show will showcase the ACS cake is a special bonus I am looking forward too!
Birthdays are ultimately important to me. I make a big deal about my kids birthdays every year and never understood why until I read the book “Motherless Mothers.” I lost my mom to cancer in 1999 and have a deep fear that my kids will lose me too someday to this terrible disease. I’ve come to realize that each birthday I am trying to build a lasting memory that will never leave my children. I’m so glad that ACS and Ace of Cakes have teamed up to make sure there are more birthdays in the world.
I have been looking forward to this program. I watch Chef Duff every week and have enjoied the designs his team has done. This Birthday Cake is fantastic. I have made it three different time for a Rotary Club, work and for our Official Kick-Off for our Relay For Life. Way to go Cheif Duff. I am a three time suvivor the fist being 40 years ago Thank you for your support, thankyou for your dedication to our cause. We will be watching
My family LOVES this show! It inspired me to take the Wilton Cake Decorating Class at my local Michaels and now my step-daughter wants me to make her wedding cake! I’m not that good but I am inpired by all Chef Duff and his crew do with their business. Thanks too for supporting the Cancer Society – we walk the Relay For Life each year.

I think Duff’s work with ACS is inspiring. Being a 2 time cancer survivor, I relish having another birthday each year (which is next Sunday – Yeah!). I will be watching, figuring out how I can get a Charm City cake made for my birthday!
I walked yesterday in the Boston Making Strides, feeling so honored to be part of Strides and raising money for research. This awful disease, no matter what type of cancer, needs a cure!

I am so excited about the show. I can not wait to see it. I love seeing the cakes Chef Duff does,as a pastry chef in training Chef Duff is sort of a role model. My own Birthday is Sunday October 11th so this show is kind of an early birthday present. Cancer has affected my family also my father died of lung cancer a little more than six months after he was diagnosed with it. I am planning on having a team in the next Relay For Life next spring.
I have the Ace of Cakes show programmed into my DVR so I never miss an episode and Chef Duff & crew have done some of the most amazing cakes…I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with for ACS!
My mom was diagnosed with Cancer last year and I am proud to say that she is now cancer-free!!!! It has been a long journey but through the support of friends and family it was an easier one. ‘Becky’s Believers’ was 3-teams big at our Relay for Life
It was a blast!! My mom and I love Duff and his whole gang, I saw them when they came to the MOA here in Minneapolis. It was awesome!
Ace of Cakes is such a fun show – Duff and all his friends come up with the most amazing ideas for their one-of-a-kind cakes! Each one is more fantastic than the one before, it is such a rush to see the cakes come together – sometimes at the last minute – and see them swooped off to an event. And, boy do they receive a grand welcome wherever they go.
I think they have the most fun place to work in the world!

I wouldn’t miss an episode of Duff and his “gang”. I’m very active in the Relay For Life in honor of my parents who lost their fight against cancer. Cancer is on notice….Payback is a comin! Thank you Duff for joining our Celebrations of Life and Hope.
I love to watch Duff and all his people. they are fantastic! My mom was diagnosed with cancer in October of 08 and died from cancer in December of 2008. I have been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for 6 years in Lockhart, Texas. 2 years as the Survivor Chairperson; 2 years as Team Leader and one year as the Advocate Chairperson. And have walked all 6 years.
I am a great believer in the ACS they do great work.
I think Duff is the greatest cake man alive! I, too, decorate cakes for fun and friends. It is great that he was able to help with the ACS. I work in a hospital and see many people diagnosed with some type of cancer everyday. It is wonderful that he would do this to help raise awareness and funds. Way to go Duff!!!
My daughter and I are BIG fans of the Ace of Cakes, Duff and the whole team! Their talent and generosity are amazing. I am a new ovarian cancer survivor and look forward to celebrating my first “cancer birthday” in December. My husband and I participated in Southeastern Wisconsin’s Relay for Life for the first time this year as members of the platinum level “Footprints of Grace” team through our church. The Survivor Lap and seeing all the Luminaries was such an incredibly moving experience. Tears flowed as the names of my family members & loved ones who lost their battles were read. Meeting and hearing the stories of the other survivors was so inspiring. I’m grateful for life, I’ve slowed down to see, experience and enjoy things I’d taken for granted, love deeper and forgive more, and thank God each day that the cancer was found and pray I will be granted to celebrate many more birthdays with my wonderful husband, children, parents, family & friends. Thank you to everyone who supports me in my battle and to the the American Cancer Society and it’s volunteers for the work they do to to fight the disease. Thanks to the research the ACS makes possible, I am a survivor of the very same hideous cancer that took the life of my grandmother 41 years ago!
I love watching Ace of Cakes! inspires me to get creative with my cake making! Duff is definately my kind of cake decorator. We even looked into having them do our wedding cake but they don’t deliver to Phoenix, AZ.
Brilliant minds make brilliant things happen. This is a very worthy program and to have a celebrity like Duff Goldman endorse and support it, …well that’s just the icing on the cake.
I think Duff is AWESOME! I watch the Charm City Cakes episodes all the time! I love the staff, they are so funny sometimes. You can tell that they love their job. Duff and the staff at Charm City Cakes are so creative. Just when you think that they get a cake that will be impossible, they figure it out with pizazz. I think that it is great that Duff turned his two loves-welding and baking together. I am inspired by him. I have been trying to find my calling in the foodservice industry too. Congrats to Duff and the Charm City Cakes staff, you have made some awesome looking cakes that looked too good to eat.
“Ace of Cakes” is my all time favorite Food Network show. I am a caregiver to a cancer survivor, an ACS CAN member and proud that ACS has made this wonderful connection with Chef Duff Goldman. Duff YOU ROCK !!
I absolutely love Ace of Cakes. My roommate and I got hooked on it our Freshman year of college. I’m so happy that Duff and the rest of the crew at Charm City Cakes have decided to do this episode for the American Cancer Society. My mom is a breast cancer survivor, and one tough lady! I am so glad she was able to fight the battle of cancer and win. She has been cancer free for 15 years now, and i am so thankful for that. I’m so excited to see which cake wins!
I love this show. Duff and the crew always look like they are having fun. I loved the show that featured a Make-a-wish child and brought attention to children with cancer. My other favorite show was the Owl Wedding cake. My 6 year old just finished 3.5 years of chemotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and is an Owl lover. We live in CT, and just had his end of chemo party. He really wanted the Owl cake that was shown, but I didn’t know how to get it here. Thank you for bringing light to cancer.
Hey! Can’t wait for this epi! I’m a friend of one of the finalists and it’s very exciting. Cancer touched her family and mine as well. I think what the ACS does is amazing and kudos to Duff and the cast for using their show to promote such an important cause.
I love Chef Duff and the whole crew! I loved the Hogwarts Castle Cake and Duff’s interview with the Leaky Cauldron folks. Never thought I’d be a cancer survivor, but I am — one year after being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, I’m still here! And I must say that cake definitely helped me get through it. Cake is a wonderfully therapeutic thing, and birthday cake is even better. I celebrate with you all!
Chef Duff is so funny! You can easily see he has a softer side. The American Cancer Society has been near and dear to my heart for a long while now (if you haven’t volunteered for them, try it! You will love it). This episode is going to be great! I can’t wait!

I’m a cancer survivor and my daughter has just gone through a double masectomy. The Moffitt Cancer Society here in Tampa Florida is the greatest. Chef Duff is my favorite of all the Chef’s on TV along with Geoff and Mary Alice. I’ll await on pins and needles to see what stupendous creation they will make for the Cancer Society. I’m sure it will be great.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ace of Cakes and record it every week on my DVR. I’ll even watch the re-runs. The staff is fantastic and I’ve never seen cakes anything like what is made by Chef Duff and his staff. (And I watch the cake competitions on Food Network and TLC.) My BFF is a 10 year breast cancer survivor. My grandpa is a 14 yr prostate cancer survivor and has had numerous melanoma’s removed from his face, arms, chest, etc. We lost my grandfather-in-law to lung cancer nearly one year ago and I lost my biological dad to liver cancer in June of this year. I believe cancer is straight up EVIL and nothing less. I am thankful to God for the lives that have been spared and the doctors who have been given the capacity for knowledge to fight this disease. Glad to see that Chef Duff is involved in this project with the American Cancer Society. You ROCK Charm City Cakes!!! I hope you will deliver to North Carolina when my son gets married in about 30 yrs!!!

I love Ace of Cakes and I have been working as a team captain for The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for 4 years now. To see Duff choose this cake meant a lot to me. I am a childhood Leukemia survivor and I wish more people had access to the great care and treatments I did. I am all for Less cancer-more birthdays. I thank God everyday for the fact that I have the chance to celebrate my birthday each year. Charm City Cakes -you rock!

My nine year old Brittani is a cancer survivor. Ace of Cakes is her favorite show. She can not wait for this episode. This is such a great idea coming together for this cause. The American Cancer Society has been so helpful to my family and Brittani goes to one of their camps every year. Can’t wait for this episode.
i would like to step up for all the cancer patent’s sibilings and say thanks to duff and ace of cakes to support more birthdays and less cancer. I think ace of cakes is a ROCKIN AWESOME show and i live for seeing every episode of ace of cakes! my brother is almost in remission from hodshkin’s lymhpoma cancer which he got diagnosed with Febuary, Friday 13, 2009, so it is extra special to me-a common 12 year old cancer “almost survivor”’s sibiling!

We have been watching Ace of Cakes since it’s inception. We took a vacation in Baltimore, and have more pictures of the outside of “Charm City Cakes” than any of the other attractions we saw! That was the highlight of our trip!
I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2006 – at that time my daughter, the awesome caregiver that she is, started saving her money (she was 9 at the time – and now is 12). She said that if I would promise her that I would get through this chemo and radiation, then she would save her money for an “Ace of Cakes” Duff cake for me! She knew that was my favorite show.
I may not ever be able to get a Charm City Cake – but I have my good health, am a three year survivor – now all I need is a signed poster from Duff!
Thank you, for being a supporter of the American Cancer Society. I never thought I would “care” about that, but now it is my dream and my passion to live to see a day when it can be said “we have finally found a cure for this dreaded disease that hurts and steals so many lives”.
My Aunt Betty is the reason I got started doing RFL.She was given 6 months to live and she fought Breast Cancer for 8 years.She wanted to help fight this disease so I now continue her fight.I want to thank Charm City Bakery for focusing on this cause.I can’t have more birthdays with my aunt,but with people joining together we will find a CURE!Happy Birthday to all of our warriors in the fight of their lives.
On October 18th my granddaughter Bella and I will be participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Albany, NY in memory of my cousin Carol Gamache-Taylor. Carol was only 39 when she died of breast cancer, leaving behind two daughters, Connie and Heather.
To Duff and all of the hard workers at Charm City Cakes….I thank you for all of the hard work you put into your job. You all are seriously wonderful people and you all make me laugh every time I watch the show. I can’t wait to see the cake for the cure!!!! I am not too far away from Baltimore and I am really looking forward to the day I can take a trip to your shop and get my own amazing cake. Please don’t ever stop doing what you love!!!! You all aspire me to do better!
Who else better to create the most special birthday cake ever? Chef Duff is the perfect chef to do this for the American Cancer Society. The ACS helps people to continue having more and more birthdays by all the fundraising they do year round to help find that cure for cancer. Most of the work is done by all those special volunteers who give so much of their time and affort for the cause. I want to thank the American Cancer Society for their kindness and generosity and Chef Duff for helping to honor all the people who will continue to have many birthdays for years to come.

I LOVE Duff & gang and I especially liked the Independance Day Cake on last night’s episode. I was however a little disppointed with the small amount of time devoted to the ACS Birthday Cake.
