Fun Fact Friday: Interesting facts about greeting cards
Most everyone uses them to send greetings, thanks, and good wishes, but I never stopped to think about just how many greeting cards people send or how many people actually write something inside (far less than you’d think, actually). Here’s some greeting card facts from thefuntimesguide.com:
- Each person sends an average of 55 greetings cards per year.
- The average American household spends about $64 on holiday cards and gift wrap each year.
- The average American receives eight birthday cards and four gifts a year.
- Americans write additional messages inside a birthday card only 70% of the time.
Buying all those cards can add up. Do you know of anyone who is crafty enough to recycle wrapping paper from gifts into homemade birthday cards? What about using online birthday cards instead – do you consider them to be equally sentimental as getting a card in the mail? Share your thoughts in the comments!

This weekend, my 12-year old daughter and her friends are hosting a surprise birthday sleepover for one of their friends whose mother lost her very short battle with lung cancer this past July. Each year, her Mom would have a huge sleepover birthday party for her which all the girls looked forward to. This will be the first birthday she will have without her Mom and it will probably be difficult for her and her Dad and brothers.
