Tip Tuesday: Get the family involved
Birthdays are always about the birthday girl or boy — as they should be — but oftentimes that means their siblings can feel a bit left out. So this year, why not try and involve them in the birthday party planning? Perhaps an older child can be in charge of taking pictures or videotaping. If the party has an entertainer, one of the siblings can introduce them when it’s time for the show. Other tasks could be passing out refreshments, taking the presents, or cutting the cake.
Even though they may seem like little things, getting siblings involved will go a long way towards making them feel appreciated and involved in the celebration.

This weekend, my 12-year old daughter and her friends are hosting a surprise birthday sleepover for one of their friends whose mother lost her very short battle with lung cancer this past July. Each year, her Mom would have a huge sleepover birthday party for her which all the girls looked forward to. This will be the first birthday she will have without her Mom and it will probably be difficult for her and her Dad and brothers.
