Happy 79th birthday to basketball legend Dean Smith!

Dean became a household name during his 36 year tenure at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill where he coached the Tarheels to 879 wins — a record only recently broken by Bobby Knight!

A member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, Dean has taken UNC to 11 Final Four appearances — winning 2 national titles along the way — and today, he holds the 9th highest winning percentage of any men’s college basketball coach!

For those of you who don’t follow college basketball, you may have heard of Dean Smith, thanks in part to his close relationship with one of his former players — Michael Jordan.
