More Birthdays
The Official Birthday Blog is a project of the American Cancer Society, the official sponsor of birthdays. We work to create a world with more birthdays by fighting cancer every day. We help people stay well and get well, we find cures, and we fight back – so that you and millions like you can celebrate more birthdays.
You can help us create a world with more birthdays by celebrating yours healthier.

Get the appropriate screenings. Stay healthy by making sure you’re taking the right actions for someone of your age and sex.

Stay Active. Keep your guests moving by planning your celebration around an action-oriented activity. Go swimming, play a sport, or have a dance party!

Be prepared. If you’re hosting an outdoor party, make sure you have sunscreen (at least SPF 15) and hats on hand for guests who might have forgotten them.

Stay food smart.Consider serving low-fat snacks like popcorn, pretzels, and baked chips and salsa and healthy meal options like grilled chicken or shrimp skewers.

Have your cake and stay healthy, too! Make your birthday cake from scratch so you can control the ingredients and make smart substitutions like swapping butter for applesauce.

Happy birthday, Shaq!
This weekend, my 12-year old daughter and her friends are hosting a surprise birthday sleepover for one of their friends whose mother lost her very short battle with lung cancer this past July. Each year, her Mom would have a huge sleepover birthday party for her which all the girls looked forward to. This will be the first birthday she will have without her Mom and it will probably be difficult for her and her Dad and brothers.
